Moodle offers a backup and restore feature that enables instructors to create course backups at anytime during the semester. Course backups can be restored into the course in the case that a course becomes corrupted. The backup and restore processes can be used in a variety of other ways as well such as duplicating courses or specific activities in one course to another course

  1. In the Administration block, click Backup. Page 1, Initial settings, of the backup process is displayed
  2.  Make sure Include enrolled users is not selected and click Next. The Schema settings page is displayed

  3.  By default, all activities and resources are selected. You can deselect items that you do not want to backup
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Next

  5. The Confirmation and review page is displayed. In the Included items area, make sure everything you want backed up is selected
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Perform backup. The Perform backup page is displayed
  7. A progress bar is displayed showing the progression of the backup

    ALERT!

    The backup process may a few minutes to complete

  8. When the backup file is created, the Complete page is displayed. Click Continue
     

  9. The Restore page is displayed. The backup file you just created is listed in the User private backup area
     

  10. Click the Download link to save the file to your computer. Take note where you saved the file because you will need to access it during the Restore process
