  1. Enter Firefox's Open Menu in the upper right hand side of the browser
  2. Click Options
  3. Click on Applications on the left menu, and type "mailto" in the search box.
  4. Click the drop-down Action menu, and select Use Gmail
  5. Close the window
  1. Go to gmail.uncc.edu and sign in
  2. Click on the browser handler icon on the right side of the address bar
  3. Make sure Allow is selected, and click Done

This is not supported natively in Internet Explorer (IE) or Safari.

Warning

This only applies to links on the web not mailto links in files on your computer (e.g. .doc, .pdf etc.) If you are not in a web browser, the default email client on your computer will open up.

    1. Hi Angel, Thanks for this information. Unfortunately, ITS does not recommend 3rd party extensions because we don't have a contract with the developer, can't guarantee the code and do not provide support.

  2. Internet Explorer can also be configured to do this, but requires installation of the Google Toolbar: http://www.google.com/intl/en/toolbar/ie/index.html

    Once the toolbar installed, click the wrench icon at the top right corner of your Internet Explorer browser to open the Toolbar Options window. Scroll down to the "Web-browsing tools" section, select "Use Gmail for 'Mail To' links," and click "Save."
